Friday Night Magic is the most dependable night on a game store’s calendar, and the easiest one to under-promote. One post on Friday afternoon reaches the players who were coming anyway. A steady rhythm across the week reaches the ones who might.
The four-post rhythm
For a weekly event, four posts a week is plenty:
- Monday or Tuesday: announce. Format, start time, entry fee and prizes.
- Thursday: remind. Seats left, what to bring and a reason to come this week.
- Friday afternoon: day-of. Doors open, pod sign-ups and a photo of the tables being set up.
- Saturday: recap. Results, photos and a thank-you that points to next week.
Use the ideas below to keep those four slots fresh for a month or more.
Announcements and reminders
- A “this week’s format” graphic with start time, entry fee and prizes. Use the same template every week so regulars recognize it.
- A seat counter: “12 of 24 seats left.” Update it on Thursday.
- New-set week: “First FNM with the new set. Bring your new deck.”
- Next month’s formats in one post, so players can plan their decks.
- Bring-a-friend night: both players get an extra promo pack or store credit.
- A prize spotlight: the prize wall or this week’s promo cards.
Day-of posts
- Tables set up and ready, 30 minutes before doors open.
- A story poll: “What are you playing tonight?”
- Pod or table photos once rounds start. Ask before posting anyone’s face.
- The pizza arrival. Small moments make the store feel like a place to hang out.
- A judge or organizer intro: who runs FNM and how long they’ve been playing.
- Last call: “Registration closes in 30 minutes.”
Recaps and results
- Top finishers with their deck names or decklists.
- A photo carousel from the night.
- The play of the night, told in two sentences.
- An attendance milestone: “Our biggest FNM since the prerelease.”
- A thank-you naming the judges and staff.
- Next week’s format, with a link to sign up.
Community and people
- A regular spotlight: one player, their favorite deck and how long they’ve been coming.
- A first-timer welcome: “Three new players tonight. Welcome!”
- A staff deck tech, as a short video or a photo with the decklist.
- A throwback photo from your store’s first FNM.
- A playmat or sleeve showcase from your regulars.
- A Discord invite for pairings, trades and next week’s sign-ups.
Questions that get replies
- “Which card from the new set will see the most play here?”
- “What was the first card you ever opened?”
- “Draft or constructed for next month?” Then actually use the answer.
- “Caption this” with a photo from last week.
- “What should we add to the prize wall?”
- “What time works better for you: 6:00 or 7:00?”
A few tips
- Post on the same days at the same times every week. Regulars start looking for it.
- Ask before posting faces, and don’t post minors without a parent’s OK.
- List every FNM as an event on your Google Business Profile and Facebook page, not only in your feed.
- Keep your events current in Wizards of the Coast’s store and event locator, so players searching for FNM find you.
